It had been my intent to be an artist who teaches. After art school I found too many art teachers in line for too few jobs. Substitute teaching knocked all my fresh idealism out of me.
Through a grant-supported on-the-job training program I served as a curator for a small city art museum for 4 years. This was my MFA.
With a personal investment of many thousands of dollars, I owned and managed an art gallery/art services business for 16 years. This was my MBA and my lessons in fairness and betrayal. It was a sobering experience.
Eventually I went to work for someone else who promised to pay me properly. That never occured and after 7 years I quit.
My heart decided it had other plans for me, so now I draw in my studio and work three or four part-time jobs to support my life and my art.
